“Demo Clinic” medical centre

“Demo Clinic” is a diagnostic and outpatient centre near the sea coast. A salt-laden coastal atmosphere accelerates corrosion, so the choice of aluminium finish is as important here as the choice of profile system.

Solution

• Finish — powder coating to a coastal (seaside) specification, or anodising with a film thickness for aggressive environments. The client received a facade cleaning plan with more frequent intervals than for urban buildings.

• Facade — a high-insulation stick curtain wall with solar-control glazing on the south elevations.

• Consulting-room windows — a thermally broken window system with smooth surfaces that are easy to clean and disinfect.

Patient comfort

Waiting areas face the inner courtyard, and street facades use glazing units with enhanced sound insulation. Opening sashes in day-care rooms have restrictors and lockable handles.

The programme was coordinated with installation of medical equipment: the facade was closed floor by floor so a controlled indoor climate could be created for finishing works.

The project shows how operating conditions shape the specification as much as the architecture does.
